A Historical Perspective to Inform Strategic Planning for 2020 End-of-Year Wildland Fire Response Efforts

چکیده
A severe outbreak of wildfire across the US Pacific Coast during August 2020 led to persistent fire activity through end summer. In late September, Fire Weather Outlooks predicted higher than usual into winter in parts California, with concomitant elevated danger Southeastern US. To help inform regional and national allocation firefighting personnel equipment, we developed visualizations resource use recent season, high-demand analogs. Our provided an overview crew, engine, dozer, aerial resource, incident management team usage by geographic area. While these afforded information that managers needed support their decisions regarding allocation, they also revealed a potentially significant gap between demand late-season availability is only likely increase over time due lengthening seasons. This highlights need for increased assessment suppression acquisition systems that, date, have been poorly studied.

Strategic Planning and Budgeting of Wildland Fire Preparedness Programs for Risk Management
In approaches that were previously used, preparedness planning used tactical modelling of individual fire events and resource deployment. Results from modelling individual fire events were typically gathered to construct a program analysis at the planning unit or at the landscape level. This research deviates from those tactical-based approaches by using strategic modelling to inform planning a...

BACKGROUND Yaws, one of the 17 neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), is targeted for eradication by 2020 in resolution WHA66.12 of the World Health Assembly (2013) and the WHO roadmap on NTDs (2012). The disease frequently affects children who live in poor socioeconomic conditions. Between 1952 and 1964, WHO and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) led a global eradication campaign using i...
متن کاملEstimating Hydrologic Values for Planning Wildland Fire Protection1
411 Abstract: Expected effects of wildland fires on hydrologic values have been indexed by 11 hydrologic parameters of floods, sedimentation and water supply. Coefficients and watershed attributes from 10 multiple-regression models are used to distribute measured hydrologic parameters throughout each watershed. Other coefficients are used with present fire condition and fire frequency to estima...

متن کاملContribution of Women Scientists to Pharmacology: A Historical Perspective
The article highlights the contributions of a few prominent women scientists to the science of pharmacology. These women, some of whom were from other scientific fields, contributed significantly to our understanding of pharmacology. This was achieved in an era in which pharmacology was a more or less male dominated field. Even though it is easier for women to enter scientific fields nowadays, t...
